What our subscribers say about us

“The community here is one of the best, friendliest and most welcoming I've ever had the privilege to be a part of. 4TW isn't just a tool to get me writing, it's pretty much an online home. It's the site where I check first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed, and I have no idea how I managed without it most of my life”

~WardenRed

“After a week of not writing anything, because I was on vacation, I was anxious to write again. I wondered if I would feel blocked because I hadn't kept the juices flowing, but I managed to write 1200+ words without breaking a sweat. Feels good to be at it again!”

~Lilviscious

“I just love this place so much. The idea of killing monsters with words written is genius and keeps me going. I've had sick days I forced myself to sit down on my computer so I wouldn't break my streak. So much love!”

~Erinhavoc

“I cannot thank you guys, the creators, the community, enough for all of the encouragement, joy and support that I have received. Thank you for this wonderful, uplifting space!”

Can you pause a subscription? Buy a year and turn it on/off as needed?

No.

Is there a way to gift subscription time?

Answer:

Yes, visit the "Gift Options" page to see what’s available.

I can’t afford a subscription, can you help?

Answer:

Yes. Join our Community Pool to get free subscription gifts throughout the year. If you need additional help email us and we’ll be happy to talk.

What is the benefit of a paid vs free subscription?

Answer:

With a paid subscription you get access to unlimited Files, 1,000 battles a day, the ability to save your Writing Streak if you miss a day, and a much more complete experience.

Is the desktop app included in my plan?

Answer:

Yes, on every plan including Free. The desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux counts the words you write in Word, Scrivener and the other apps you choose, and every word fights a monster.

Is the Chrome extension included in my plan?

Answer:

Yes, on every plan including Free. Connect the Chrome extension to your 4thewords account, then write anywhere and get credit for every word.

What happens when I get to the File or Project limit on my plan?

Answer:

You won’t be able to add new ones.

What happens to Files or Projects I already have if I move down a plan, but have more than the allowed limit?

Answer:

Files & Projects over a plan’s allowed limit will still be accessible but you won’t be able to edit them or create new ones. We’ll never force delete Files or Projects. As always, we do recommend having your files stored in more than one place.

What are File Versions?

Answer:

File Versions are separate saved copies we make of files you've made changes on. Every 30 minutes we'll save a copy of files you've worked on (has been updated) on our server for safe keeping. You can look through these file versions, copy from them and restore them as new separate files.

How does File Version Retention work?

Answer:

Every individual saved file version copy has a retention period we'll save it for, before deleting that old copy from our server. Every file version has an 'Expires at' date where you can see when it'll be deleted. We always keep at least one copy of a file version saved.

How does upgrading or downgrading my subscription affect File Version retention?

Answer:

When you upgrade to a higher plan we automatically update all of the retention period on your file versions to the new plan's retention period. When you downgrade, we don't decrease the retention period.

What are Pinned Versions?

Answer:

Pinned File Versions are versions that you have selected to not be deleted with the usual retention period. Pinned File Versions are never deleted, these are copies you have selected to keep indefinitely.

What happens when I reach the number of max battles a day?

Answer:

You won’t be able to start the next battle (loop or auto-start will pause)

Do Multiplayer & Endurance battles count toward my battle count?

Answer:

Yes.

Why have a max battle count for the Member plan?

Answer:

This is more of a server health and security precaution than a limit you’ll likely reach. 1,000 battles in a day is around 42 battles an hour, or 1 per minute, every minute for 24 hours. Even if you’re fighting 50 word monsters with a high attack, it’ll be hard to reach this limit, and the limit is not likely to affect you.

When do battles start counting for my daily limit?

Answer:

Whenever the timezone you’ve picked for your account crosses from midnight to the next day.

Will Frozen or Time-Warped Monsters count toward the Battle List capacity?

Answer:

No.

What happens to my existing Wardrobe or Map slots if I’m over my plan’s limit?

Answer:

They’ll be locked from changes, but you can still delete them to return house items to your inventory.

I’ve purchased additional Wardrobe & Map slots, am I losing those?

Answer:

No, any additional Wardrobe & Map slots you purchased will always be accessible, regardless of your plan’s limit.

Will the Main Quest count toward Questbook capacity?

Answer:

Yes it’ll continue to count.

What are the limitations for Streak Saving on the Free Plan?

Answer:

You won’t be able to use Stempos to save your streak on the Free Plan (this includes not being able to save today for free).

What is the Cosmetics Welcome Pack?

Answer:

It’s a set of items (Wardrobe, House, Badge, Stempos etc.) that you’ll get when you subscribe to a paid plan for the first time.

Do I lose my Cosmetics Welcome Pack if I downgrade my plan?

Answer:

No.

If you stuff yourself with quests (Member or Pro), grab them, and go to free, what happens to the quests?

Answer:

Quests will remain in your Questbook, but you won’t be able to pick up new Quests until you are back under your plan’s limit.

Do projects shared to the Reading section also count toward a plan’s limit?

Answer:

Yes, all projects in your account count.

When will “Monthly Refills” be distributed?

Answer:

On the renewal date of your plan. If you purchased a yearly plan on May 4th, you’ll get your refill on the 4th of each month.

What Reactions are included in the monthly refill?

Answer:

All of the Reactions we have in the game (100+) except for Upvote and a few reactions that were part of special challenges. New reactions we release will be included in the following month’s distribution.

What consumables are included in the monthly refill?

Answer:

All of the consumables we’ve released. When we release new consumables we’ll add them to the following month’s distribution.

Wait? Am I really getting Crystals each month?

Do I get these benefits every Special Event?

Answer:

Will I lose some access to special events if I downgrade to a Free plan during an event?

Answer:

Yes.

Will I get the benefits of a Pro Plan if I upgrade during an event?

Answer:

Yes, you’ll get the Tokens, Premium Item and Extra days. (Since this would happen after an event’s start date, please understand that it will be impossible to give Early Access).

What does 1 Premium Item per event mean?

Answer:

We’ll create one premium Wardrobe or House item (like our backgrounds or frames) for each event that Pro members will get for free.

What are “Extra Days” at an event?

Answer:

Once an event ends, Pro members will be able to stay at the event for that extra time.

What is “Early Access” for an event?

Answer:

You’ll be able to sneak in and start an event before the official start date. Exactly how early will change from a few hours to a few days, depending on the size and length of an event.

Will I get additional benefits that are added to the Pro plan in the future?

Answer:

Yes, you’ll always get the most up to date features and all of the benefits included in the Pro plan.

When will I get monthly refills if I buy the Lifetime Pro membership?

Answer:

You’ll get them on the date you purchased the Lifetime membership. If you bought it on August 4th you’ll get the refills on the 4th of each month.

Can I refund the membership?

Answer:

No. Lifetime memberships are non-refundable.

Can I transfer my Lifetime membership?

Answer:

No. Lifetime memberships are purchased by the account and cannot be transferred or sold to another account.

Can I gift or be gifted a Lifetime membership?

Answer:

Do Gifts expire?

Answer:

No.

Will subscription gifts I buy for others renew automatically? Will I be charged again?

Answer:

No. You’re buying a one-time set period of time and won’t be charged again.

Can I buy/use more than one code?

Answer:

Yes. You can buy and use as many codes as you like.

Do you need an account to buy gifts?

Answer:

No, on https://4thewords.com/gifts anyone can buy a gift. They can either send it to your email or if they know your Dust Warrior name can send it directly to your account as well (you’ll get a notification with the gift).

Where can I find a copy of the codes I’ve bought?

Answer:

You’ll receive an email with the code and purchase summary. If you have an account you can also find them on your “Gift History” page.

If I’m currently on a paid plan, can I accept a gift subscription? What happens to my current plan?

Answer:

Yes, you can accept gift subscription at anytime. We’ll pause your current subscription plan and move the renewal date to take into account any time added by the gift code. For example: if you get a 6-month gift, your old subscription plan won’t renew for 6 months and the renewal date will be whatever the old one was +6 months.

What happens if I get a code with Member subscription time, but I’m currently on a Pro plan?

Answer:

You can’t use a gift code to downgrade so you’ll need to wait for your current Pro time to end before claiming the Member subscription.

Are gifts refundable?

Answer:

Yes, email us (<a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>) within 14 days of purchase if you need a refund for unused codes. If the code’s been used we can’t refund the purchase.
